What is written down, and where it lives

The user guide sits inside the app, because that is the only place it stays in step with the build it documents. Everything that has to be stable — the terms, the disclaimer, the privacy policy — is here.

1. What Volex is

Volex is engineering software in two parts. Anvil is structural calculation software: it performs the code checks named in each result and reports them with their clause references and derivations. Forge is geometry software: it produces solid models and manufacturing files from a description, computes ISO 286 limits and fits where a fit is named, and runs a finite element pass over the resulting geometry.

2. Engineering disclaimer

Volex does not replace independent checking by a chartered engineer, nor professional indemnity sign-off. The engineer issuing any calculation produced with this software remains responsible for the design, for the suitability of the inputs, for the load cases and combinations selected, and for any check not performed.

Only the checks printed in a result have been performed. The absence of a check is not a statement that it is satisfied. Inputs, load cases, support conditions and material grades are as supplied by the user and are not independently verified.

Validation cases compare Volex against published worked examples within their stated tolerance bands. That is evidence of agreement with those examples. It is not proof of correctness for your design.

3. Geometry, fits and the finite element pass

Forge's finite element pass is not a strength check. It reports where a model works hardest and returns no rating, no safety factor and no pass or fail. A linear-elastic peak at a bolt hole reaches yield on connections that are fully compliant, so its output must not be presented as a verdict on a design.

ISO 286 fits named in a prompt are computed from the published tables. A full tolerance stack-up across a chain of mating parts is not performed, and no geometric tolerancing — true position, flatness, perpendicularity, runout — is applied, checked or exported. Manufacturability notes cover printability and machinability only; there is no mould-flow, draft or sink-mark analysis. Standard-part geometry is modelled to the nominal dimensions given, is not built from certified tables, and carries no load rating. Responsibility for checking a model against the drawing and the standard before it is manufactured rests with the user.

4. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for the calculations run under your account. Do not share an account between engineers — the audit trail records which account produced each result.

5. Records and reproducibility

Every calculation is version-stamped with the engine that produced it, so a result can be reproduced later. Calculation records are retained as described in the privacy policy.

6. Availability and changes

The service is provided as-is. Calculation modules are corrected as defects are found; corrections are recorded in the changelog, and a corrected module may produce a different result from the same inputs. Where a correction changes a previously issued result, it is your responsibility as the issuing engineer to review affected designs.
