Threaded rod generator — text to CAD.

Say the thread and the length — “M8 threaded rod 60mm long” — and Volex Forge builds the stud with a real helical thread and returns a STEP, STL or DXF.

The thread is modelled geometry, not a smooth cylinder with a note attached. That makes the file bigger than a plain bar and it makes it the right file for a rendered assembly, a printed part or a fit check.

What you get

From a plain-English prompt

M8 stud, 60 mmExample — measured from the part this prompt builds
An M8 threaded rod 60mm long
ParameterValue

Pitch1.25 mm (coarse)
Length60.0 mm
Major diameter, over crests8.0 mm

Every part is checked before you download it — geometry, and where relevant FEA against textbook theory. See the verification report.

Frequently asked

Is the thread really modelled?
Yes — it is cut as a helix, which is why the measured diameter over the crests is in the table and why the file is larger than a plain rod. If you only need a placeholder, ask for a plain rod instead and the file will be a fraction of the size.
Which pitch does it use?
The standard metric coarse pitch for the designation — 1.25 mm for M8. For a fine pitch, say so in the prompt and check the result.
Can I get a partial thread?
Describe it — for example a plain shank with a threaded end — and check what comes back. The template here threads the full length.
Will it print?
The STL carries the thread form, so it prints at a resolution that can hold it. Below about M6 most FDM printers will not resolve a usable thread.
