Volex Labs / Forge / U channel generator — text to CAD.

U channel generator — text to CAD.

Describe the channel — base width, leg height, wall thickness and length — and Volex Forge builds the U-profile as one solid with both legs standing on the base, and returns a STEP, STL or DXF.

The base and the two walls are built from your numbers, so the inside clear width is the base width less two walls. If something has to fit inside the channel, that is the figure to work from, and the measured table below gives it.

Frequently asked

Is a C channel the same thing?
For this generator, yes — both words build the same U-profile. A rolled C-section with tapered flanges is a different shape; say what you need and check the result.
Which dimension is the width?
The base, measured across the outside. “100x50x5” reads as base width, leg height, wall thickness. You can also name them — “100mm wide, 50mm tall, 5mm wall” — and the named version wins.
Can I get the inside dimension instead?
State the outside and read the inside off the table: base width less two walls. The measured part is the authority, not the prompt.
Which format should I use?
STEP for CAD and CNC, STL for 3D printing, DXF for the 2D outline.
